A 4WD holiday can be a tremendous amount of fun. If you and your family love the great outdoors, there are few other things that can bring the amount of satisfaction than to spend a couple of days away from the rush of city life in an environment where you are able to breathe fresh air every day.
The way to get going is of course to buy yourself a 4WD. There’s no need to buy a brand new one. In fact, if you plan to take it into the wild often, it’s really not a good idea to buy a new 4WD costing more than your house, since it will go through a lot of wear and tear quite quickly.
After that it’s a good idea to join a 4WD club. There are no doubt such a club near you. This way you will get to learn the ropes from people with a lot more experience than you. It’s also much more interesting to share the outdoors with people who think like you than to go all on your own.
Very often your 4WD trips will be into virgin country, where there will definitely not be a hotel or restaurant anywhere near. That means you have to arm yourself with the right equipment. Get a respectable quality tent that is able to withstand all the weather conditions you are likely to encounter on your trip. Your sleeping gear is also very important: A comfortable sleeping bag and a good quality camping mattress will go a long way to make sure that you have a good night’s rest.
Since you won’t be near any restaurants, you will also need to take along equipment to prepare your own food. A portable gas stove, gas cylinder and cooking utensils should top your list.
Something else that should not be left to chance is your clothing for the outdoors. To name just one example: weather conditions in a mountainous area can change without less than an hour. One moment you might be in a t-shirt and shorts, the next moment you could need a jacket and jeans.
4WD clubs have regular outings where they go on trips of different durations. A a novice, it’s probably best to start off with a weekend trip to a location not too far from home. This will give you the opportunity to find out what you have forgotten to buy and to learn the basics of 4WD trips without too much stress.
A 4WD holiday will give you the opportunity to experience nature in a way that city dwellers normally can’t. You will get to see seldom visited places of rare beauty. If there is one thing you should remember throughout all of this, it is to be responsible. A 4WD can do a lot of damage to the environment if not handled responsibly. Enjoy yourself, but leave nature in the pristine condition you found it so that other people can also enjoy it after you are gone.

One of the best vacations to take with family and friends to spend some quality time together. Or, if you’re looking for alone time, a drive is a great way to have a peaceful day to yourself. And there are day and weekend trips too. It’s cheaper and easy, and a good way to sightsee around on a Sunday or take a nice drive up the coast or through the state.
It helps to find a destination, whether it’s near or far, and then map out the trip on the way. Plotting hotels, eateries, and places of interest on the map will help while you’re on the road. You’ll also have different places to go if you decide not to stay on route.
When going far also be sure to know where the gas stations are. Traveling in remote areas or in the desert can be dangerous if you run out of gas and help is miles away, so be sure to stock up with water and supplies.
Even if going on a day trip right in your own state, you could try visiting a town you’ve never been to or learn some new things about your state by sightseeing.

Caravan vacations offer an easy way to enjoy all the pleasures of a holiday minus the costs. There are thousands of caravan parks in the UK, spread around in every county and holiday destination. A small primer on the options and what kind of facilities one should expect from such a holiday might prove to be very helpful.
First of all, let’s do away with the misconception that caravan parks are something comparable to what they call trailer trash in the US. To make it easier, most parks have large caravans which can easily sleep 6-8 people, so the cost can be shared by an extended family or a group.
Even so, daily and weekly rates for static caravans are quite low, compared to what a hotel room would cost. The only thing to keep an eye on is the extras. If the park is greedy, it can turn into a big tab quickly. Another thing worth checking on would be whether the park is pet friendly and if there are any restrictions or charges or pet policies.
All those who have not yet had a chance to experience caravan vacations should give it a shot. It is the type of thing that is often called an acquired taste – travelers will find that after some time, it starts getting pretty comfortable. Especially with the low caravan rates and all, a hotel room will pale in comparison.
